Our Earth Essay Our earth is made up 78 percent of water, and rest of it is land. Because of this, there is ample number of living organisms in land as well as water. It has plains, plateaus, mountains, valleys, deserts, forests, grasslands, oceans, seas, rivers, lakes etc. As there are various kinds of regions on earth, every region has its own kind of wild life as well as plant life. Earth has undergone a gradual change in its environment through its years of evolution. Our earth and its diverse environment: Plateaus, plains and valleys Plateaus: A plateau is a large highland area of fairly level land separated from surrounding land by steep slopes. Some plateaus, like the plateau of Tibet, lie between mountain ranges. Others are higher than surrounding land. Plateaus are widespread, and together with enclosed basins they cover about 45 percent of the Earths land surface. Plains: plains are broad, nearly level stretches of land that have no great changes in elevation. Plains are generally lower than the land around them; they may be found along a coast or inland. Coastal plains generally rise from sea level until they meet higher landforms such as mountains or plateaus. Inland plains may be found at high altitudes. Valleys: A valley is a hollow or surface depression of the earth bounded by hills or mountains, a natural trough in the earths surface, that slopes down to a stream, lake or the ocean, formed by water and/or ice erosion. Systems of valleys extend through plains, hills, and mountains. Rivers and streams flowing through valleys drain interior land regions to the ocean. At the bottom of many valleys is fertile soil, which makes excellent farmland. Most valleys on dry land are formed by running water of streams and rivers.

The British Empire Essay -- British History, Industrialization, Politi

The British Empire is the largest empire ever seen on the face of this planet. The empire was divided into two. The first part of the empire revolved around the British colonies in America that were popularly known as the thirteen colonies. These gained independence from Britain in 1783. The second part of the empire, which developed from the first empire, came later. It started during the Napoleonic wars and survived throughout the nineteenth century and the first half of the twentieth century. In fact, the British withdrew from its last colony, Hong Kong, in 1997; indeed the empire lasted for a long time. It developed from India and spun to regions of Africa and Australia. The influence and the power of the empire spun around the world shaping it in different ways. This influence is still evident in many places that fell under its control (Ferguson, 2004). To many people the world is the way it is due to the effects of the British Empire. Certainly, this empire just like other nu merous empires before it and after it had triumphs and humiliations; however, the fact that this empire had numerous good effects cannot be overemphasized. The empire impacted positively on Britain and the colonies. The first notable positive effect of the empire is industrialization. The British having been ahead in industrial evolution helped spread technology to new places around the world. Particularly, the British Empire was responsible for the development of early industries in their colonies (Balasubramanyam & Wei, 79). They built industries in the colonies such as sugar factories, cotton factories and tobacco industries. Certainly, this was a new development in these colonies that later led to the colonies mechanizing their cottage industri... ...ver, as a result of the demands of abolitionists, the British parliament enacted laws such as the Slave Trade Act 1807, which resulted in abolishing trade. Certainly, this was a remarkable contribution to the respect of human rights. Clearly, the vast empire also left a vast influence. The numerous positive affects are still evident today in most of the former colonies. Indeed, as most people believed the â€Å"sun never sets† on the British Empire. Most people believe that the current state of the world is a product of the empire. Numerous things including educational systems, farming, judicial, governance systems and others around the world are a product of the empire. The empire left a permanent mutual relationship among former colonies, which still enjoy trade and diplomatic ties. It is, therefore, beyond doubt that the empire had numerous positive effects.

On-The-Job Training at Max’s Restaurant Essay

The Bachelor of Science in Industrial Technology is one of the courses offered in the Palompon Institute of Technology requiring a one year exposure of the student in their field of specialization in the industry. The Bachelor of Science in Industrial Technology can complete the academic requirements if a student will undergo a practicum or OJT. The practicum will be provided whether in public or private thus; it provides the student an opportunity in the actual field of work I the preparation for their future work. The cooperating industry will provide the necessary skills and knowledge learned in school. Through observation in the actual work, the student will become more competitive and efficient when they get a job in the future. The practicum also provides the student some important insights on management developed in modern science and technology used in advance countries. Summary As a student trainee, I need to do my best inspite of my shyness, so that I  can be strong to face the challenges ahead of my work and maintain a good working relationship with them. They oriented me about the rules and regulation, safety guidelines, standard operating procedures. And they also taught us some tips on how to manage the restaurant properly. At first, I felt nervous in working with them. They introduce me to my co-workers. At first I was so shy, but after a few days I was able to inject jokes with them. I’m so thankful to my co-workers because they helped me in my works. In fact they told that they are just like me when they were starting their job. They gave me advice and comforted me when I’m sad. I was assigned at the kitchen department when the kitchen supervisor told me that I was to be in the pantry which will prepare foods and as well as portioning, tagging dates. I observed what they did everyday until I learned how to manage my own self. I really enjoyed working with the everyday. I am used to be friendly and nice to them. At first as a pantry, I was so slow in preparing food ordered and the kitchen supervisor advices me that I need to be fast in preparing orders. But still I did my job well in preparing food so that it will appear presentable and clean to the customers. My second assignment was in the Bar Station; organizing and making some dessert, drinks and others. I really enjoyed when we have other functions such as parties and take outs. I enjoyed preparing foods for the customers and I experienced these every end of the month when we are having our inventories and quality assurance inventory and when MGP are to inspect the expired foods and services extended to the customers. And I observed also if employees are on the night time to serve the order of the customers. I did my job very well in this area. Overall, in my on the job training, I was so glad that I had my training at Max’s Restaurant because they were so good to me. They helped me in my work. There were so many things that I have learned from them that I can use in my future job. Problems Encountered by the OJT Having OJT is a big problem already for some students especially those who  are taking it, because you don’t know where will you be going to have OJT. And you will be the one to apply for a job in the restaurant or hotels unlike other schools their instructors will be the one to guide them to their prospective places for deployment aside from the endorsement letter. In my on job training it’s difficult for me to cope with the new environment especially they are kapampangans. Though there is a quotation ‘we can please anybody but we cannot please everybody.’ Since we are in the kitchen we feel the pressure in handling some co-workers. We have to be patient according to kuya Chiefs, a regular employee. They were taught something about dealing with customers and co-workers. They taught me how to build confidence that I have now in treating different people. Being patient and understanding to co-workers and customers to avoid conflicts and misunderstandings. My stay in Max’s Restaurant for almost five months was really enjoyable. I am glad that I was able to gain my first working experience from a prestigious restaurant. Conclusion/ Recommendation As a college who will graduate soon, I must prepare myself to be a responsible person. One of my concern is to help students who are in the on the job training. And because my course is Bachelor of Science in Industrial Technology major in Foods, it’s easy for me to cope with everything because it is related to my course. Having a work experience in an established and popular restaurant like Max’s, I have a closer look on how things work in a busy dinning, from proper food preparation to portioning vegetables, tagging dates and organizing bar. I have learned many good experiences for my training. I am sure many students liked me especially the BSIT-Foods will find that the training in a restaurant is worth rewarding. Based on my personal experience, I will recommend Max’s Restaurant as a good venue. Difficult from the start, but through hard work and patient are important virtues to improve ourselves. I kept these in mind and apply in appropriately so that if ever I ventured in my own business I can apply everything I learned into use. Hopefully my business will prosper like Max’s.

Malcolm, similar to his father, became a black nationalist leader. He went through many difficulties throughout his life that taught him about whites and the white supremacy groups. This is what led him to be strong and inspirational to others, but this is also why he said Blacks need to defend themselves by any means necessary. Introduction Malcolm X was born on May 19th 1925, in Omaha, Nebraska. His birth name was Malcolm Little. He considered Little a slave name and chose the X to signify his lost tribal name( 2015, Biography). Malcolm was one of eight kids from his father and mother, Earl Little and Lois Little respectively. Earl Little was a baptist minister who was a supporter of black nationalist leader Marcus Garvey. Marcus Garvey was a leader of pan africanism. He founded the Universal Negro Improvement Association, a group of black nationalists who believed in a separate but equal status for African Americans. Marcus Garvey said If you want liberty you yourselves must strike the blow. If you must be free, you must become so through your own effort. Until you produce what the white man has produced you will not be his equal. This became a core belief that Malcolm X advocated during his career as a black nationalist himself. Since his father was getting heavily involved with black nationalist, many threats starte d coming his way. These threats were coming from white supremacist and the Klu Klux Klan. Before Malcolm turned four, he and his family had to relocate many times because of the threats. One of the houses they relocated to was burned down The police ruled it as an accident but Malcolm and his family believed it was the Klu Klux Klan or white supremacist. Malcolm experienced violence due to racism at an early age. His father was found lying across trolly tracks with his head beaten in, which was also ruled as an accident by the police. Malcolm Xs family found it hard to cope with the cruel death of his father. This caused his mother to have a mental break down throughout the years, and eventually was put in a mental hospital. His siblings were relocated to foster homes and orphanages. How He Came About Malcolm Little attended West Junior High school in Lanster but was expelled due to a disobedience behavioral record and an offense to one of his teachers. This caused him to start going to Mason Jr high school in Mason, MI. He was living in a detention home ran by the Swerlin family, the ones who sent him to Mason Jr high school. In Mason Junior High school, Malcolm experienced a lot of discrimination since the majority of the students were white. A few of his teachers would make n***er jokes and mock African American history. For example, a teacher said that blacks were lazy in one of their lessons, talking about the African community. This offended Malcolm because he worked very hard in school, succeeding in all his classes and even some sports. Malcolm did not like math because there was little room for him to argue his solution. On the other hand, he enjoyed English. There was one teacher who Malcolm adored the most. His name was Mr. Ostrowski, which was Malcolms English teacher . He wanted everyone to strive for success, no matter what stands in your way, giving advice about how to become something in life (The Autobiography of Malcolm X, 30). His eyes were opened up after a honest talk with his favorite teacher, the conversation showed him that no matter how hard he worked he will always be looked at as a n***er. The conversation ended with the teacher saying you have got to be realistic about being a n***er basically ridiculing Malcolm for wanting to be a lawyer because he didnt think that blacks were capable of becoming such a thing. Whether it was because he thought they were dumb or because he thought the white supremacist would never allow it. Malcolm dropped out after middle school and became a drug dealer in boston. He did a few other things throughout his teenager years, but he got caught in 1946 at the age of twenty for robbery. This is when Malcolm Little became Malcolm X during his jail time. Following in his fathers footsteps, Malcolm X began his path as a leader in the Pan-African movement during his jail sentence. In jail he developed his reading and writing skills by reading every philosophy, literature, history, and science book in the prison library. Also during his sentence, Malcolms siblings visited him and would tell him about the Nation of Islam group that they were a part of; so, he joined the Nation of Islam and claimed to have felt truly free while in jail. Malcolm X was half Muslim, therefore his original religion was Islam making him have a lot of faith and admiration for the group. Once Malcolm X was released from prison he met Elijah Muhammad in Chicago, who was one of the leaders in the Nation of I slam. Elijah Muhammad led the group Nation of Islam from 1934 till is death. During this time Elijah became Malcolms mentor. He even made Malcolm X a minister at two temples. Malcolm X showed his passion for the group and other blacks and Muslims by putting in hard work to become a influential spokesperson. Because of this, he gained many followers; he become popular around the world. The Nation of Islam was known for its teachings combining elements of traditional Islam with black nationalist ideas( Nation of Islam, Britannica). This group advocated that blacks are separate from whites and wanted black supremacy. Malcolm X became the spokesperson for the Nation of Islam. The NOI (Nation of Islam) rejected the white America, its christian beliefs and its values in a violent way. They did not agree with the ways of the non-violent resistances such as Martin Luther King Jr. and the civil rights. Malcolm X completely rejected the civil rights act. The civil rights act was a way for blacks to attempt to demand equality and no more discrimination in a nonviolent way. This contained many riots and marches to try and stand up to the whites and white supremacy groups to get laws and justice systems changed. During this period many blacks were hurt and treated horribly. Many were sent to jail, beaten, and had threats sent to them, but Martin Luther King Jr. insisted on being nonviolent. The civil rights act, though it strived for equality, led to black people remaining subordinate to white people.
